Isaac:
A calorie is the amount of energy requiered t heat 1 Kilogram of water one
degree. It is a specific measurement of energy. Treadmills are accurate in
measuring this but this depends. Some treadmills calculate energy based on
a standard of someone weighing 150 pounds and some treadmills calculate the
energy expenditure based on the weight of the person that has been entered
on the display.
Ofcourse there is some error in this measurement even in the specific weight
machines. There is no way for the treadmill to measure how efficient the
person is. To get this exact measurement you would need to know how much
oxygen was consumed and then a true calculation could be entered. For the
most part though it is fairly accurate especially at low levels of output
and for the general public.
