In today's Times (Monday) the Chief Examienr of french
writes:
", Yes, it is easier to get a good grade at A level
and at GCSE than it used to be, but there is nothing
wrong with this, because the standards used to be
pitched too high, and it is demoralising for our youth
to have to try and achieve standards to which few are
able to aspire. This essentially is what Paul
Sokoloff, the examination boards’ convener, seems to
me to be saying in heavily coded language (report and
leading article, August 16). I know of few people who
have been involved in the public examination system at
a high level for a long time who would disagree. So
why not say so? Yours faithfully, TONY WHELPTON(Chief
Examiner, O-level French,1969-87; GCSE French
1988-95;A-level Spoken French, 1973-96),"
This is exactly the same argument put forward for
Business Studies.
Yes standards have fallen.....to A level.
My own view is that languages and sciences are very
difficult to do quickly as both i assume require a
fair amount of practice and bookwork. Your stepson's
result is very impressive.
Is there a methodology you can share with us?
Just to satisfy my curiosity - is your stepson by any
chance French/German/Spanish?
