Mobile HCI 2001
THIRD INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON
HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION WITH MOBILE DEVICES
10 September 2001, Lille, France
An IHM-HCI 2001 Workshop
www.mobilehci.org

SOME SPACES STILL AVAILABLE
The last few years have seen the development and marketing of a vast range
of mobile computing devices. Ranging from ever smaller laptops through
palmtops to WAP phones and digital devices such as cameras, these devices
share a common problem: attempting to give users access to powerful
computing services and resources through small devices, which typically
have tiny visual displays, poor audio facilities and limited input
techniques. They also introduce new challenges such as designing for
intermittent & expensive network access and design for position aware &
context sensitive devices.
The Mobile HCI workshop series provides a forum for academics and
practitioners to discuss the challenges and potential solutions for
effective interaction with mobile systems. It is intended to cover the
design, evaluation and applications of techniques and approaches for all
mobile computing devices. This workshop builds on the success of the
previous two International Workshops on Human Computer Interaction with
Mobile Devices held in Glasgow in May 1998 and Edinburgh in August, 1999 at
INTERACT 99. It will run as part of the IHM-HCI 2001 conference in Lille,
France.
Short papers will be presented (half as posters and half as talks) on the
following subjects:
- Investigating Context-aware Information Push vs. Information Pull to
Tourists
- Evaluating Interface Design Choices on WAP Phones: Single-choice List
Selection and Navigation among Cards
RSVP Browser: Web Browsing on Small Screen Devices
- Enhancing the Reading Experience: Using Adaptive and Sonified RSVP for
Reading on Small Displays
- Audio GPS:spatial audio in a minimal attention interface
- PocketCERO mobile interfaces for service robots
- Citywide: supporting interactive digital experiences across physical space
- Customizing Graphics for Tiny Displays of Mobile Devices
- Patterns of Mobile Interaction
- Context-Phonebook - Extending Mobile Phone Applications with Context
- Mobile Devices as Props in Daily Role Playing
- Shaping the Future of Mobile Devices
- Design issues in distributed interaction supporting tools: mobile
devices in an ATC Working Position
- Information Representations for Shared Communication Spaces
- Web Clipping: Compression Heuristics for Displaying Text on a PDA
- Disorganization and How to Support it Reflections on the Design of
Wireless Information Devices
- Analogue styled user interfaces: An exemplified set of principles
intended to improve aesthetic qualities in use
- Bridging Observation and Design in Concept Development for Mobile Services
- Perceptually guided scrolling for reading continuous text on small
screen devices
- Smart CAPs for Smart Its - Context Detection for Mobile Users
- Supporting Mobile Workgroups on a Wireless Campus
- Scalable Support for Work Groups and Groupwork
- Model-Based Design of Mobile User Interfaces.
See http://www.cs.strath.ac.uk/~mdd/mobilehci/procs/ for draft proceedings.
It is possible for people to attend the workshop even though they have not
submitted a paper.
REGISTRATION
The cost for the workshop is 500FF for IHM-HCI attendees (76 euros) and
registration is through the standard IHM-HCI procedures - see
