PhD Position Eindhoven University of Technology
Designing and Evaluating Technologies for children.
The Capacity Group User-Centred Engineering (Eindhoven University of
Technology, Faculty of Technology Management) is seeking applications for a
PhD position in the field of user-centred design and evaluation methods.
The research project Designing and EvaluatingTechnologies for Children is
conducted within the research school The J.F. Schouten School for User-
System Interaction Research. The project is a collaboration between
Eindhoven University of Technology, Philips Research and KPN Research and
is funded by the Innovation Oriented Research Programme / Man Machine
Interaction (IOP/MMI) .
The problem addressed in this project is: "How to design and evaluate
technologies for children, such that a pleasurable and useful product can
be guaranteed?". The emphasis will be on determining how existing
empirical evaluation methods can be adjusted to make them suitable for
involving children in design. The project assumes the underlying principles
of User-Centred Design and explores how to conduct early and late usability
testing with children. Furthermore, the project is closely related to a
running PhD project that examines what evaluation criteria are appropriate
to assess the usability of children's products, and a Post Doc project that
will develop guidelines for designing and evaluating children's products.
