RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP IN COMPUTING SCIENCE

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join a project funded
by ONCE (Organizacion Nacional de Ciegos Espanoles (Organizacion Nacional de
Ciegos Espanoles www.once.es) entitled:
"MultiVis: A multimodal visualisation system for blind people using virtual
reality". The post is available from 1st November 2001 (starting date
negotiable) and is tenable for 1 year and three months. The aim of the
project is to investigate if state-of-the-art VR technologies such as
force-feedback, 3D sound and speech input can make visualisations usable by
blind people
The post will suit applicants with a good honours or postgraduate degree in
computing science/psychology, or a postdoc researcher. The position will
entail development of multimodal interfaces for representing information
using sound and haptics. The RA will be supervised by Dr Stephen Brewster,
and will be based in the Department of Computing Science. Full details of

The appointment will be made on the Researcher 1B or 1A scale, up to point
6, (£17,451 - £19,486), according to qualifications and experience.
