FREE* Electronic Lecture CD-ROM - 'HCI: An Introduction.' by Dan Diaper
As part of a research project (Do-It-Yourself Electronic Lectures - DIYEL)
we have developed a prototype e-lecture which we wish to have evaluated by
academics who teach HCI.
The e-lecture is intended for Computing/IT/etc. students. It is based on
Diaper (2001) and might be used, for example, near the beginning of a course
unit on HCI.
The e-lecture introduces HCI as an interdisciplinary discipline and
discusses issues to do with: (1) People; and (2) Software Engineering.
Approaches within HCI are discussed under the four headings: (1)
Requirements; (2) Evaluation; (3) Science; and (4) Modelling. The e-lecture
concludes by introducing User Interfaces and, finally, with the problem of
delivering HCI to the software industry.
The e-lecture contains about 40 minutes of video clips and can be viewed
either as a lecture or by navigating its hypertext architecture. Advice to
students on how they might use the e-lecture is included.
The e-lecture requires no software other than Microsoft Powerpoint and Word.
It should install on nearly any PC. Installed, the e-lecture requires 400KB
of hard disc space. It can be run via an intranet.
FREE* i.e. it costs you no money.
BUT - Our condition on those who receive a FREE* CD-ROM is that they do
evaluate the e-lecture by returning a questionnaire to the Project during
September, 2001.
We hope to be able to make a CD version of the e-lecture widely available,
either free or at cost price, before the start of the U.K. academic year
(October, 2001).
To obtain your FREE* CD-ROM send email containing a request and your
