What College? There is no College which has anything to do with specialist
registration in A&E Medicine. We have a Faculty of A&E Medicine.
My understanding was that to work as a Consultant in A&E in the UK you do not
need the FFAEM but you do need to to be on the Specialist Register.
UK trainees need the FFAEM to get onto the Specialist Register. However it is
also possible to get onto the register if you can show that you have completed a
specialist training program overseas to a standard equivalent to that of a UK
Consultants training.
I had thought that Australasian specialist training programs in Emergency
Medicine were considered to be of equivalent standard and that someone who had
completed training and would have been eligible for an Australian Consultant (or
equivalent) post would be able to get onto the UKs specialist register.
It is the Faculty of A&E medicine which considers any such applications
individually.
I know Jonathan Marrow lurks on this list. He is the Chairman of the JCHT (A&E)
of the Faculty and might be able to explain more.
