Dear lits members
I've recently put the two documents from the WHO's Disability and
Rehabilitation Team's 'Rethinking Care' initiative (along with a load
of other stuff incidently) on to the Disability Archive UK list.
There are two files one includes a range of papers including Vic
Finkelstein's 'Rethinking Care' article from 1998, already on the
archive along with all his other published work, that triggered the
whole initiative, the other includes testimonials and statements
from disabled people from around the world.
I think these documents are especially important as they illustrate
the different perspectives and experiences on disability from
across the world, and particularly the poor nations of the majority
world. They should be easily downloadable and should prove
invaluable to everyone interested in disability and social justice.
The report and recommendations from the actual 'Rethinking Care
from Disabled Peoples' Perspective' conference, held in Oslo last
April, was delivered to the WHO in July and should be published
later this month. Watch this space?
For those of you new to the list you can access the archive via the
RESOURCES button of the Centre for Disability Studies website
here at Leeds <leeds.ac.uk/disability-studies> or direct on

Bye for now
