DOING RESEARCH WITH CHILDREN
A course designed for professionals working with children who wish to gain
knowledge of research methods for accessing children's views.
Aim of the Course: The programme aims to equip participants with the
knowledge and understanding that enables them to carry out research projects
which work with, rather than on, children to access their views.
Entry Requirements: We expect that participants will be practitioners
within children's services, with a professional qualification in areas such
as nursing, medicine, social work or education. There will be no formal
entry requirements, but participants will be expected to have experience in
work with children.
Accreditation: The course has been approved by the University of York as a
non-award bearing course.
Course Dates: Two courses will be run in the academic year 2001-2002. Each
course will require eight full days attendance, plus time for individual
study and research. Course 1 will start on Thursday 18 October 2001.
Attendance will be Thursdays from 18 October until 6 December 2001. Course 2
will be held from 24 January until 14 March 2002.
Course Staff: The course will be taught by staff from the Social Policy
Research Unit, all of whom have considerable experience in research with
children. The course team will be: Dr Bryony Beresford, Ms Jane Lightfoot,
Dr Tricia Sloper and Ms Suzanne Mukherjee.
