Advance Notice: Research Post on Project researching into
issues related to teaching Social Poicy in Higher Education
I am writing to the mailing list now hoping to catch people
before conferences and annual leave. Although the details
are not finalised, it is likely that the Learning and
Teaching Support Network subject centre for Social Policy
and Social Work (SWAPltsn) will have funding for a project
to research into teaching of Social Policy in Higher
Education.
We will need someone with knowledge of the subject community and the
issues involved in teaching Social Policy to work on the project for
one year on a 0.6 basis (but see below) from September or October
2001. The research officer would be involved in all stages of the
project, starting from consultations with the subject community, going
through interviewing and analysis of data, to dissemination events and
publications. As well as understanding the needs of the
subject community, you would need excellent interviewing
skills, interest in qualitative data analysis, experience
of writing for publication and of staff development and the
ability to work independently and in a small team. You
would need to be prepared to travel throughout the UK, and
to meetings in Bristol and Southampton.
If the post is filled on a 0.6 basis, perhaps as a secondment, it is
possible for the research officer to work from a home or
institutional base in any part of the UK, although you must
be prepared for travelling to interviews, meetings,
and events where necessary. Alternatively, a full-time temporary post
may be available, with additional developmental work required within
the subject centre. In this case, the post would be based
in either the University of Bristol or the
University of Southampton.
If you would like to express initial interest in this project, in
complete confidence, please contact Pat Young by e-mail at
[log in to unmask] (although note I am away from this
office week commencing 16th July) or phone on mobile
number 07748 715654. If you are attending the SPA
conference in Belfast, we could talk there.
