RESEARCH SUPPORT LIBRARIES GROUP - CALL FOR EVIDENCE
The four UK higher education funding bodies have establised a new strategic
advisory group on research support libraries. The aim is to develop a
national strategy to "ensure that UK researchers in all disciplines have
access to world class information resources".
The Social Policy Association has been asked to seek views regarding the
quality and accessibility of research libraries (based in universities,
research organisations, national libraries etc) for those working in social
policy and related areas. Responses to two specific groups of questions are
sought:
1. What are the needs of UK researchers for access to research information
sources; how do these needs vary between subject groups and between
disciplines; and how do you envisage them developing over the next ten years?
2. What provision is required to meet these needs: how will that change as
needs change: what are the main current gaps in provision; and what
structures and actions should be put in place to ensure that resesarchers
have ready access to the full range of information resources to support
their work?
If you have ANY general views or concerns about library provision that
could inform this review, please forward them to me BY SEPTEMBER 3RD.
