I think Norton's and Solomon's are examples of 'bloatware' - I use Macanese,
which is slightly smaller and easier to update, but it doesn't automatically
check e-mail attachments until you request it. It did recognise and destroy
all the viruses I've been sent so far.
There is a free package (with good updates) at

I've not used it myself, but someone else told me he thinks it the biz.
