SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING SCIENCE
RESEARCH ASSISTANT/OFFICER
USING TRIZ IN WORKFLOW IMPLEMENTATION MODELLING
Cranfield University has been awarded a research contract to investigate
innovative methods for defining workflow in enterprise information system
implementation. The 12 month project shall investigate the feasibility of
using the systematic theory of innovation TRIZ as a model to develop tools
that can generate multiple process definitions in definition workflow. The
effective representation of the diverse human user preferences in using IT
systems can lead to fast and effective implementation of enterprise
systems. This shall avoid the current situations where users designed
their own spreadsheets and databases to by-pass rigid workflow automation,
leading to the disintegration of enterprise systems. The one year project
shall lead to a substantial research programme working with the leading
vendors and consultancy firms in large scale IT implementation.
The project requires a research person with a multi-disciplinary outlook.
Ideally you will have a doctorate, however, candidates with strong
experience will also be considered. You should have a good first degree in
work psychology, engineering, manufacturing or IT. Preferences will be
given to those who have knowledge and experience in IT or quality systems
application and implementation. The skill to extract and formulate user
requirements and validate the requirements with software partners would be
beneficial. You should be prepared to travel regularly within the UK and
in USA. The position is ideal for preparing the candidate to move into
system integration consultancy. There may be an opportunity to register
for an appropriate higher degree.
The salary for this appointment will be within the range £22,442 to £26,396
per annum.
Whilst this position is for one year in the first instance, there may be a
possibility that it could be extended if the follow on programme is secured.
