COPAC: Improved record displays
COPAC is a free access catalogue containing the merged catalogues of
20 major UK and Irish university libraries.
Up until recently COPAC has displayed records using a basic character
set that did not show accents, ligatures, or non-English characters
such as those additional characters used in Icelandic. Recent
development work means that we are now able to use the full Latin 1
character set in the COPAC records, so you will now be seeing the text
as it should be displayed.
Any search carried out using these accented characters etc. will find
all records with the relevant word regardless of whether an accent is
present in the record or not. Not all records are supplied to us
containing the necessary accent information and it is important that
these records should not be excluded from a search.
In addition, the full Latin 1 character set is now used in the COPAC
Download records supplied by email. So the correct text will be
available for use in bibliographies etc. If this causes you any
problems in dealing with the downloaded records please let us know.
