Do you speak English? Are you a member of an environmental NGO? Then
perhaps the Training for Young Environmental Leaders is something for you!
The REC's goal with establishing the Training for Young Environmental
Leaders program was to improve the capacity and skills of young CEE and NIS
environmentalists and their NGOs to deal with organizational and management
problems.
The objectives of the program are:
to develop the management capability of the participants and their NGOs,
to overcome cultural and national differences through intensive work in a
multicultural environment,
develop the know how on new approaches and solutions to environmental
problems (i.e. use of modern information technologies, market based
solutions),
develop project preparation and implementation capability of the
participants,
Developing training skills.
The NGO activists follow a four-week program of integrated and interactive
workshops which address the particular needs of the region and its younger
NGO members, including:
NGO and project management,
campaign strategy,
media-work and communication skills,
fundraising,
public participation in environmental decision making,
business plan for NGOs,
NGOs and civil society,
new approaches to solving environmental problems, and the
challenges of accession to European Union.
The young leaders can develop products individually tailored for the needs
of each person and their NGOs during a series of workshops, that can and
will be applied when they return to their own country such as project
proposals and funding strategies, press releases, and community action
plans.
The techniques used during the training are: interactive training by
experienced practitioners and trainers, group and individual work on
concrete assignments and site visits to share best practices.
The participants should
come from a variety of backgrounds and from throughout the Central and
Eastern European region (CEE), the Newly Independent States (NIS) or the
West.
be between 20 and 30 years old,
share a strong interest in improving the environmental situation in the CEE
region,
be active in an environmental NGO,
have citizenship in one of the participating countries, and
speak and write English well.
Participants spend four weeks at the REC Head Office in Szentendre. The REC
will cover all costs related to travel, food, accommodation and training
fees for the CEE and NIS participants.
For the 2001 sessions, the REC is inviting participants from
the CEE region: Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania,
Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Yugoslavia;
the NIS region: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgystan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turmenistan, Ukraine and
Uzbekistan.
Participants are also invited from Western countries.
