Vacancies at
XEROX RESEARCH CENTRE EUROPE
Cambridge Laboratory
The Xerox research laboratory in Cambridge is a world leader in
multidisciplinary systems research, with a strong emphasis on understanding the
human and organisational aspects of technologies in use, and on reflecting this
understanding in novel systems designs. We are part of an expanding research
centre, with a second lab in Grenoble and strong links with Xerox Palo Alto
Research Center (PARC) in California. Our lab is a stimulating, and challenging
environment, and the work is varied, involving collaboration with academic
partners, other Xerox research organisations, product development groups, and
end-user organisations
Collaborative and Interactive Systems: Scientific Leader
We have a strong tradition of research in the filed of collaborative and
interactive systems research and following a re-organisation of our research
structure we are seeking someone who can lead a team of researchers in this
area. The successful candidate will have strongly established research
credentials but may not necessarily have led a research group before. Not only
will they develop new long term basic research directions in collaborative and
interactive systems they will also contribute to medium term research activities
on our projects in the fields of wireless/mobile systems and emerging office
environments. We are also recruiting three junior positions in collaborative and
interactive systems and if the timing were appropriate, the successful candidate
will be able to influence these appointments.
Collaborative and Interactive Systems: Post-Doctoral Researcher
We are looking for three researchers with experience in collaborative and
interactive systems. Responsibilities will include inventing, implementing and
evaluating novel software, and contributing to setting and achieving the
long-term research goals of the group. Applicants should have experience of, or
a willingness to apply an interdisciplinary approach, and of building prototype
systems; a good knowledge of C++ would be beneficial.
Fieldworker
We have a strong work practice group and require an experienced fieldworker who
will both contribute to our long-term basic research activities around work
practice and to our medium term research projects on mobile/wireless systems and
emerging office environments. Applicants should have conducted previous
fieldwork research that has resulted in novel understandings of the social and
organisational dimensions of work and the use of technology. They should also be
able to demonstrate an interest in using work practice studies in the evaluation
and design of software systems.
To apply for any of these positions, send a CV and a letter of application to:
