Research Opportunities in the School of Computing
Faculty of Information and Engineering Systems
Leeds Metropolitan University
1. Research Officer Ref - IES/RO2/IQ £16,209 - £20,471
* Using Virtual Learning Environments to support students' study.
A post-doctoral research officer is required to work on a two-year project
within the
"ISLE" (Intelligent Systems and Learning Environments) research group. The main
role
will be to investigate means by which existing research work in Virtual Learning
Environments (VLEs) can be used to support the studies of LMU students, and to
conduct empirical investigations of the technology in use, drawing lessons for
the
use and development of VLE technology. In addition, the successful candidate
will
be required to work with members of the group on the identification and
completion
of research funding bids and on the production of research papers. The
successful
candidate will have a Ph.D. in a related area.
2. Research Assistant Ref - IES/RA/HCI £11,086 - £15349
A two-year project within the School of Computing to investigate the application
of
pattern languages as a design representation for interactive computer systems,
considering, in particular, their usefulness as a communication mechanism
between
designers, programmers and users. The project will develop and evaluate an
exemplar
pattern language for a limited set of interactive applications, such as virtual
environments
or mobile devices.
Further details and an application form for the above two posts may be obtained
from the Resources Office, Room A133, on 0113 283 6739 (answerphone).
3. Postgraduate Research Studentship Ref - IES/RS Bursary - £6,800 per
annum
The School of Computing invites applications from well-qualified graduates in
Computing or a related discipline to undertake research in *one* of the
following areas :
* Enhancing engagement in low-cost multi-user virtual environments
* Genre, reception and expectation in computer use
* Architectural design of virtual information spaces
The Research Student will be expected to register for a higher degree (M.Phil /
Ph.D.)
and carry out research activity.
Further details and an application form may be obtained from Melanie Chan,
