While I also would not advise anyone with large amounts of video data to use
the current shipping version of HyperRESEARCH (version 2.03 -- the source
selection interface is clunky and imprecise), I'm disappointed that you found
problems with video coding in version 2.5 (beta 4? or are you using an
earlier beta version?). I don't recall receiving a "bug report" or any
feedback from you concerning the use of video in the 2.5 beta files, and
hence had erroneously assumed that it was working fine for you.
I would like to throw out an invitation to anyone interested in working with
video data to help us improve the video capabilities for HyperRESEARCH by
joining our betatest team. You can apply for betatest status at
http://www.researchware.com/BetaTestForm.html -- and when accepted, you'll
get instructions for accessing the downloadable betatest version (currently
version 2.5b4) of HyperRESEARCH. All we ask is that you actually *use* the
program, and report your experiences (both good and bad). In return, you get
an advance preview of HyperRESEARCH 2.5 (which in b4 is quite stable in all
its basic functions; we're hunting now for the hard-to-find bugs that are
system-dependent or crop up only under certain not-always-evident
circumstances), and -- provided you provide useful feedback -- a free copy of
the final release version when it's deemed ready for the "public."
I've been testing the video source file interface on Windows NT and
Macintosh, but would very much appreciate help testing on other systems/with
other video files (sometimes the test files we use don't trigger "bugs" that
other data files might uncover) and feedback on the user interface we use for
video coding. After version 2.5 is released, we'll be diving into version
3.0, and need to know what direction we should take the video
coding/retrieving interface in.
(HyperRESEARCH 2.5 will be a free update to all current HyperRESEARCH
customers, by the way.)
Best regards,
Ann Dupuis
