Dear all,
* Rapid assessment studies of drug use have the potential to generate
important public health interventions and knowledge
* Rapid assessments of drug use have been conducted in most global sectors,
and in at least 66 different countries
* Such approaches have been used by Medecins Sans Frontieres, WHO, UNAIDS,
UNICEF, UNESCO, UK DFID, and other international agencies
* However, despite this use, we still do not know enough about the practice
of rapid assessment, or the situations in which it is most effectively
applied.
In order to provide this information, The Centre for Research on Drugs and
Health Behaviour, Imperial College in conjunction with WHO, are undertaking
an international review of rapid assessments on substance use.
We are now asking any individuals or organisations who have been involved in
rapid assessment and WHO HAVE NOT CONTACTED US ALREADY to email us with
brief details of their work.
This includes both those conducting or sponsoring a rapid assessment
(e.g.either financially or in other ways), and also studies conducted under
'different names' such as rapid appraisal, rapid situation assessment, rapid
needs assessment, and others.
We do hope that you can help us with this request. All information will be
treated in confidence (although we may ask your permission to make summary
details available at a later date) and everyone replying to this email will
be offered enrolment in a rapid assessment information network.
If you require any further information on the study, or on rapid assessment
approaches in general, then please do not hesitate to contact us, or visit
our website at: www.RARarchives.org
With very best wishes,
Chris Fitch, Professor Gerry Stimson and Teresa O'Neill
