The points that you make are about 'appearance' as much as
anything. Of course, lack of 'gravitas' because of being young
doesn't last in itself. Although I suppose that even a older
person may still have that lack, which age then won't 'cure'.
I think that, most times, the working alliance does 'break
through' any perceived barriers - be it accent or appearance.
But I suspect that it doesn't always happen - no matter what WE
try to do to ameliorate the situation - always assuming, I
suppose, that it is our 'place' to try to ameliorate it?
(Short(ish), plump(ish), middle aged (Provided I live until I'm
past the century), also shortsighted, balding, etc.) 8-)
