Hi, I have been on the list for a while and have enjoyed reading the comments and
seeing the differences between the UK and the US. I felt the need to comment on
the issue of self disclosure in school. I am a counselor in an elementary school
and I can not imagine a teacher undertaking such a task. From what was said, I
worry about how the issues that arise will be handled and what business is it of
the teacher's anyway? The age of the children also disturbs me because at that
age they can not fully comprehend the feelings that may develop. What is the
teacher's purpose in doing this? I would question that and how is this going to
be shared? I feel the child should have the right to disclose only what he/she
wants to in the class without any punishment in his/her grade.
Thanks for listening,
Karen Wiggins, Ph.D.
