Nigel,
I would certainly agree that these classifications seem arbitrary. To me,
it makes better sense to primarily consider how the individual's brain is
recruiting each muscle to action. This of course would vary from task to
task. The movement toward methods of management that emphasize precision,
thoughtfulness and interoception is an example of how the old
classifications fail to truly help us in the clinic.
