Exploring PBL
If you are interested in Problem Based Learning and what it might mean in
your subject, and you interested in trying a newly developed piece of
discussion software, join us now in a hosted discussion. It will run until
11 July and is being hosted by the Learning and Teaching Support Network
(LTSN) Generic Centre.
The purpose of this hosted discussion is:
to explore what characterises a PBL approach
to explore similar approaches not called PBL used in different subjects
to map these together to draw a wide and inclusive picture of current
understanding
We are trialing a new piece of discussion software (see below) and will be
looking for your evaluations of this and the hosted event. If you join the
discussion it will mean you are sent an email automatically when there are
new contributions.
We look forward to your contribution to the discussion.

THE DISCUSSION SOFTWARE
The discussion will use software being developed specifically to support an
academic style of discussion, and has many features not available on other
systems, for example being able to highlight sections of a contribution to
add an inline comment (rather like using a highlighting pen and writing in
the margin). The software, Intellekt Discussions, is experimental and the
PBL discussion is part of an initial evaluation to be reported at
the '‘Improving Student Learning” conference in September. Comments are
welcome.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
The ideal platform is a PC with the latest Internet Explorer (version 5.5),
though versions 4.0 and above are supported (without some features)
Netscape (any version) is not supported and will not show the discussion.
Macs with Internet Explorer will work, but there may be minor problems.
Technical help can be obtained by emailing [log in to unmask]
The discussion is web-based but you will receive emails informing you of
new contributions.
If you or any colleagues want to join the research group developing
Intellekt Discussions or want to try the system themselves let me know
