The next IIS Southern Branch Meeting will take place on Tuesday 12th June
at The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, Clerkenwell, LONDON commencing at
6.30 pm.
Speaker: David Streatfield
Topic: Assessing the Impact of Library and Information Services.
Recent national research on library and information services has shown
that little attention has so far been given to assessing the impact (as
distinct from the efficiency) of services. David Streatfield and his team
concluded that library and information managers are all faced with the
same set of issues:
- how to generate performance indicators and targets that have some
meaning;
- how to get a sensible balance of process, output and outcome success
factors;
- how to achieve this in a rapidly changing organisational context.
Working with education, health and public librarians and information
workers the team arrived at a process which enables service managers to
get to grips with impact assessment. The work is now continuing through
efforts to address the issues involved in benchmarking on the basis of
comparative service impact. Parallel work on social impact auditing across
museums, archives and libraries in the South West is just beginning.
All are welcome to this meeting. Free buffet afterwards.
Please let Diana Grimwood-Jones ([log in to unmask]) know if
you will be attending.
