Stephen,
Single status is used to refer to organisations that treat all employees in
a similar way with regards to catering facilties, rest rooms, car parking
etc. It is deemed to be a motivational factor as all are treated the same
(It must be remembered however that - as the recent Tony Blair debarkle) it
does not include wages. Hence why Mr Portillo wants the 'big job' to gain
the extra Doe Ray Me.
