I have been on the scheme for the l;ast 3 years, since
its inception. It's a pretty good idea. I got trained
by the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, in what was
definately the best piece of INSET I have ever
received. An amazing and professional presentation
techniques course.
As for the scheme, it is quite time consuming and you
tend to get dumped on a little. i.e. someone has
dropped out at Liverpool next Thursday. We think you
would be an ideal replacement. Do you mind filling in.
Of course you don't get paid for the work, but you get
an excellent meal and far too much to drink. Always go
by train!!!
I really enjoyed doing it but dropped out this year as
I felt that I had too much on my plate. It is
excellent for the CV and you get to meet some great
people - other teachers (if you're lucky!).
I would recommend it if you think you can afford the
time, but of course every time you miss a day of
school you have to set work and later mark it etc.
However if you don't seize these opportunities...
Get back to me if you have further specific questions.
