Dear All,
Two things today
1 amazon.com
I have had an excellent response to my offer of the paper I wrote on
amazon.com and some very encouraging feedback, too. Obviously, I don't want
to overload anyone's InBox, but I am on the move for the next two weeks and
any further requests for my paper cannot be dealt with until I return on 19
June. So, being the kind hearted soul that I am, I have uploaded the paper
onto my web site where you can download it by following some really simple
instructions. The address you need is
http://business.fortunecity.com/discount/29/home.htm
This is my home page and you'll see the menu on the left hand side of the
page and the download link is at the top of that menu: just click on there
and read the instructions.
There is also a link built into the home page that works as well as the
menu.
It's a PDF file, so you need Acrobat Reader to open and enjoy it!
2 Drawing Charts Properly
I was reading the BBC's pages on the NHS and noticed that a few of the
graphs/charts they had presented weren't drawn very well. That is, they
broke the rules of good charting. Hence, I have just assembled the charts
into a PDF file and made comments on each chart as to why I think the chart
is good, bad or indifferent. I have also added a suggestion of how to
improve the chart.
I have included the BBC page reference that started me off so you can check
the charts in their proper context, too.
I've added a Note to Teachers section in which I point out some of the
things you can do with this paper as far as your students are concerned.
Finally, and thanks to Declan Tierney for pointing me in the right
direction, I have taken the AQA Business Studies spec and given some ideas
of where I think this paper fits into the scheme of things.
Of course, charting is a widely used device by Accountants and Economists as
well, so all comers are welcome.
You can get a copy of this paper by following THE SAME link as for the
amazon paper ... you'll eventually find both download links on the same
page:
http://business.fortunecity.com/discount/29/home.htm
... you'll see the menu on the left hand side of the page and the download
link is at the top of that menu: just click on there and read the
instructions.
There is also a link built into the home page that works as well as the
menu.
It's a PDF file, so you need Acrobat Reader to open and enjoy it!
All feedback welcome!
Enjoy yourselves back at school!
