Job Announcement
COHRE Deputy Director
The Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE) is
an international human rights NGO, with regional
programmes in Asia and the Pacific, the Americasand
Africa, along with thematic programmes on housing and
property restitution and women and housing rights.
Established in 1994, COHRE is a recognised voice in
the global human rights movement.
COHRE wishes to hire a Deputy Director to assist the
Executive Director and other COHRE consultants in
managing the expansion and future development of the
organisation. The Deputy Director will be based in
COHRE's International Headquarters in Geneva,
Switzerland. The COHRE Deputy Director will:
a.. Assist the Executive Director in monitoring and
implementing the COHRE Plan of Action
b.. Assist with fundraising, budget development and
other financial matters
c.. Manage COHRE consultants and COHRE regional and
thematic programmes
d.. Carry out research, fact-finding missions, legal
advocacy, housing rights training and other central
COHRE activities
e.. Represent COHRE at United Nations and other
international meetings
f.. Maintain regular contact with community-based
groups, NGOs,Governments and international
organisations with which COHRE has close working
relations
Required Skills/Background:
a.. A proven manager, who enjoys helping colleagues
perform to the best of their potential
b.. Legal background, preferably with a law or other
advanced degree
c.. 8 or more years experience working in the human
rights field
d.. Experience with housing, displacement or
eviction issues
e.. Self-motivated, extremely well-organised and an
excellent writer
f.. Willingness (sometimes on short notice) to
travel often, to all countries, occasionally for
extended periods of time
g.. Flexible and easy-going, but hard working and
deeply committed
h.. Excellent English, and preferably other
languages including French or Spanish
