> Prof P Stott is a GEOGRAPHER at SOAS !!!!!!!!
Some brief info. on Stott
Philip Stott is well known as an anti-environmentalist, associated
with both the right-wing Institute for Economic Affairs and the
fundamentalist left groups around the now-defunct LM magazine
(Revolutionary Communist Party and all that), particularly those who
produced the 'Against Nature' series on Channel 4. He has changed his
argument many times over the years from 'global warming isn't
happening' through 'global warming is happening but it is natural' to
'global warming is happening and it could possibly be down to us but
it's good' etc and various combinations thereof. His specialism is
the historical geography of Thailand and South-East Asian forests,
which makes him no more qualified to judge the rightness of climate
change modelling than most of the rest of us, but he certainly
believes he does have some form of superior rational intellect,
defining environmental activists (or indeed scientists who don't
share his views) as: "dysfunctional and/or self-appointed bigot[s]
(normally young, intellectually retarded, or having a tantrum because
they are not getting their own way) who tramples over everybody else
in the name of their own Environmental dillusions..."
His current campaign is on biotechnology - see his website at:
<http://www.probiotech.fsnet.co.uk/>
This shares exactly the same problems as GM opponents, i.e.: its
all black and white for him. Biotech HAS to be good because it is
scientific progress, and anybody who suggests otherwise wants to kill
poor people and prevent human development. Personally I think it is
a little bit more complicated than this, but then how can I possibly
have an opinion worth considering since I am obviously a
dysfunctional intellectually-retarded bigot!
