There was a BET on this, last year I think, cant find it now but will look
again later. There was a paper from Archives years ago which gave
favourable results though the methodology was not great as far as I recall.
There was another study in Injury. None of these reported inserting
marcaine though there are some papers which describe insertion of marcaine
or morphine into knee joints following arthgroscopy.
I usually aspirate elbows with effusiona s they give great symptomatic
relief particularly those under tension. I once aspirated an atraumatic
elbow effuison evident by the fat pad sign and expected to get synovial
fluid but was surprised to pull blood. Furtehr questioning of this girl and
haenatological investigation revealed she had previously undiagnosed von
Williebrand's disease.
This leads me to ask a quetion I meant to post last week. I had a 72 year
old lady with an acute inferion M.I. who suffers from von Williebrand's
disease. Would anyone thrombolyse her ?
