Common patient practice in west coast of scotland is
to attend cas if they can't see (or be bothered to
call) their GP within 2 or 3 days.
Consequently, a huge amount of GP stuff is seen in
A/E.
I have to say anyone who imagines a patient "triages"
their symptoms or thinks about attending or not
attending an A/E dept appropriately is niave to say
the least. (my biggest bug bear is the visitor who
pops down to A/E because they don't want to waste the
GP's time but want their condition checked any way.)
Personally I would have a list of persistent offenders
and charge them at full private rates for each and
every repeated innappropriate attendance.
But then I am a facist and cynic after so many years
of being societies dustman.
( tongue in cheek )
