Thanks for this - yes, that's just about what I can remember from reading. But
what Jane wants is *present-day* examples, e.g. newspaper reports about
drownings where some local says, 'Ah, tis the Tees taking her life for this
year' or something of that sort.
The Don and the Dee are hungry rivers, aren't they? I remember some kind of
rhyme about them.
