Dear Colleagues, in 1937 the Earl and Countess of Athlone headed a Memorial
Fund to provide bursaries at the Imperial Service College, a Kipling
Memorial Library, install a portrait and to purchase Kipling Tors adjacent
Westwad Ho!.
The banquet was attended by 1000, the Times reports 18 Nov 1937, with Peter
Dawson singing The Irish Guards, a recitation of Sestina of the Tranp
Royal, a brief message of support fropm the King (and even more curt
message from Carrie) and the main speech by Winston Chirchill.
Does anyone know what happened to the money and whether these aims were
realised?
