Liz,
Yes you can connect the output from the mini disk into the line in socket
on the computer. I would use CTANKS not Code-a-Text multimedia if you want
to do basic transcription as that has all the transcription controls on the
key board.
If you want more then C-I-SAID v3 has more advanced transcription
facilities and also some very sophisticated features for content analysis
which can be a great boon when building up an understanding of an interview
from scratch.
It can also be be programmed to stop every time a silence of a specific
length occurs and will insert silences into the transcription. It always
retains the links between the text and the media file and will provide
information such as pitch, volume and speech rate.
Finally it contains basic wav file editing facilities which enable you to
automatically create a new sound file from a group of recordings so that
you can distribute text and sound if you want. It can output documents (as
can CTANKS) as Dynamic HTML which allows you to play the text/sound of your
reports in Internet Explorer.
