< Sorry, Mel, I must have missed the point of this posting. >
***It was simply to provide some information on the Hippocratic Oath that
some medical graduates amongst us take as part of the graduation ceremony,
plus a little more on another renowned healer and thinker. Just something
historical and philosophical from the world of medical care, nothing more,
nothing less!
There are many lessons that history can teach us and that we can still use to
advance the healing professions. Knowing what the ancients knew way before
we were born is often such a humbling and enriching experience in many ways.
At present, it is fascinating to observe, for instance, the world of
ethnobotany, which is re-examining the potions and herbs used by so-called
primitives, then extracting or using the main components as whole new
families of drugs. It is also fascinating to note some of the utter nonsense
that some great thinkers accepted way back then (and some still do!),
telling us that genius and folly are perpetual companions on the path of
knowledge and healing.
