VACANCY
BRITISH LIBRARY COOPERATION AND PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME
International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation
Centres (UK Branch)
CECILIA PROJECT MANAGER. 15 MONTH CONTRACT. SALARY APPROX stlg22Kp.a.
IAML(UK) is seeking a lively, self-motivated person to manage the Cecilia
project to build an online map of the UK's music resources. If you are
looking for a fresh challenge, are familiar with the music information
sector and have an aptitude for ICT-based work, then this post may well be
of interest to you.
BACKGROUND
Cecilia is a project funded by the British Library Co-operation and
Partnership Programme. Music-related collections are a cross-sectoral and
cross-domain resource spanning libraries of all kinds, archives and
museums; broadcasting, publishing and recording institutions; places of
worship; performance and information centres, and many specialist
societies, trusts and organisations.
At present, there is no overarching map of the national music landscape.
Cecilia will provide a collection level resource directory available via
the IAML(UK) website created using the Research Support Libraries Programme
(RSLP) collection level description schema. Such a collection-level "aerial
view" will promote the sheer scale and variety of this key cultural asset,
and support the needs of users - whether learners, performers, researchers
or those simply pursuing private passions - far more effectively.
The project will be managed by the International Association of Music
Libraries, United Kingdom Branch (IAML UK) established in 1953. It is the
professional association which represents the interests of over 260 music
libraries and library staff in all LIS sectors, specialist societies,
broadcasting, publishing and the performing arts. Project partners are the
Music Libraries Trust and the RSLP-funded Ensemble project .
