Two Postdoctoral Positions in Neuroscience:
Research into Eye, Head and Hand Co-ordination.
-------------------------------------------------
Two vacancies currently exist for research scientists in the Sensorimotor
Neuroscience Group of the Department of Optometry and Neuroscience at
UMIST. The group is principally concerned with carrying out experimental
work on head, hand and eye co-ordination in human subjects with the
objective of improving the understanding of basic mechanisms and assessing
the implications for neurological disease. Projects currently being
undertaken include the investigation of mechanisms of predictive motor
programming and studies aimed at determining the role of attentional
mechanisms in eye movement control. We are looking for 2 keen research
scientists to develop this work further, particularly in the area of 3-D
movements and hand-eye co-ordination. The group has extensive facilities
for neurophysiological and psychophysical testing and has strong links with
centres involved in related areas such as brain scanning and with major
clinical neurology centres. One post is supported through an MRC programme
grant and is for a 4 year period, the other is initially available for 2
years.
Candidates should possess a PhD or equivalent and preference will be given
to those with a multi-disciplinary science background. We are specifically
looking for experience in neurophysiology, biomedical science,
biomechanics, experimental psychology or related disciplines. A familiarity
with standard computer software and data analysis techniques would be a
considerable advantage.
Informal enquiries may be made to Prof. Graham Barnes. Tel. 44
