I would like to announce a meeting of the Dublin Core Metadata
Initiative's DC-Libraries Working Group in conjunction with the meeting of the
International Federation of Library Associations. Thanks to OCLC for
hosting this.
The meeting will take place as follows:
DATE: Aug. 22, 2001
TIME: 2:00-5:00 p.m.
PLACE: Weston Hotel, Boston, Mass. USA
(room information to follow)
AGENDA: To discuss a library application profile for use with Dublin Core
metadata.
A more detailed agenda will be distributed at a later date. A subgroup of
the DC-Libraries Working Group will be drafting a library application
profile to be distributed before the meeting. This would include
specifications for use of Dublin Core metadata in library applications
such as required elements, refinements in definitions of DC elements or
qualifiers, endorsed elements and qualifiers, additional elements and
qualifiers not approved by DCMI but needed for library applications,
recommended encoding schemes/controlled vocabulary with Dublin Core
elements.

In a few weeks OCLC will have further information on their Web site,
including a registration form for those who want to participate so that we
can get a sense of how many people will be in attendance. This meeting is
open to anyone interested in the topic.
