I've heard from a Consultant Physician contact that there are plans to make
SHOs do a generic SHO training year after the House Job year. This will
include 3 x 4 month rotations through posts such as A&E. After this generic
year the SHO will have to apply for a 3 year rotation spending 2 years in
the DGH and 1 year in a teaching hospital. There will be no specific 3 year
A&E training scheme. The schemes will be geared towards medicine, sugery,
paeds etc. After this they will be in a position to apply for a registrar
post.
I'm advised it's all going to be announced in October 2001.
Does anyone have any hard factual information on this. I'm a little
concerned that A&E may be asked to convert 6 mth posts into 4 mth ones!!

Subject: National electronic library for Health- Emergency care Branch-
LAUNCH June 2001
The new National Electronic Library for Health- Emergency care branch will
be launched in June 2001.
The aim of this web site is to eventually provide all those in emergency
healthcare with a single portal to all the information they require for
emergency care.
In particular we are developing a database of guidelines, including links to
the national prehospital guidelines and the guidelines being developed by
BAEM
To keep everyone informed of developments, we are setting up a user list.
initially to let you know hat is on the site and then to inform you of new
additions. We promise not to send more than one message per week.
We also want your views on what you want from NELH-EC.
If you would like to subscribe to the NELH-EC users mailing list, please
send an e-mail to

When it is launched NELH-EC will be available at:
