Been away from the list so catching up with a few things.
Spine Boards. I have a spinal unit in Southport Hospital who advise the
board is removed asap, best while the ambulance crew can help and they
can have the blasted thing back to torture their next victim (pace John
Paskins; hope you're better). Thought this was settled now? Call them
transfer boards and half the problem goes as then no preconception that
they treat anything in hospital.
Confidentiality. No problem about informing the GP about all
attendances no matter what. We are fellow professionals and shouldn't
forget it when bureaucrats or social workers interfere.
GP letters. Minefield so I asked my local GPs what they wanted. Not
mindless computer junk, but relevant information (I know it's difficult
to decide sometimes but most are easy). If in doubt send it; there will
always be a bin handy (heresy).
We prescribe the morning after pill as it's not yet in all the local
shops. Most seem to have a genuine reason for the polite request and
my local gynaecologist sees no medical problem. Much better than even
one unwanted pregnancy, so no moral judgements or buck passing here,
just a practical help to a girl in distress. We don't see many and a
fair number are quite mature married women.
Flamazine. Not used now at all and don't miss it one little bit. Funny
what you can do without.
Fractures. Have same problem as Airedale but friendly orthopods. Don't
see any other way out but not all fractures need setting immediately.
