Another philosophy I've come across (from a psychiatric unit) is
encouragement of cutting behaviour on the basis that otherwise they'll
switch to ODs- unless someone is very determined, it's difficult to injure
themselves seriously with a razor, but easy with a bottle of paracetamol.
