You have to pay Dr's what they're worth for goodness
sake, just look at how important we all become when
something goes wrong. I'll take the risk, but not for
less than £60000 PA.
That's your average company director type salary. Are
Dr's any less deserving or acountable ?
According to our govt. they are.
It's about time we got paid what we're worth. And I
agree that money isn't everything I but it is one of
the markers of how your society values you.
If people want a MacDonalds type service - instant
access - fine. But in return I want a decent standard
of living and time with my family and I don't want the
two to become mutually incompatible.
I like patients - always have - it's not their fault.
But in my area there is no "goodwill" left and
unfortunately the patients will suffer eventually.
They already do through lack of GP's. A good salary is
part of recruitment and retention, as are safe and
pleasant working conditions.
I'm getting fed up with all this claptrap about
medicine being a vocation and patients being your
reward. I'm a patient too, so are my family. We are
rewarded with a slightly higher salary but a parent
whos absent, gets called out, get's stressed out etc,
etc. I for one would feel much better if I got £100000
PA for doing it. As, it seems, do my colleagues
stateside.
Iain.
