'Information Visualization'
VVECC meeting at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
on Wednesday 23rd May 2001
Registrations are now due for the above meeting of the Visualization and
Virtual Environments Community Club; the closing date for registration is
only two weeks away.
The Chairman of the meeting is Prof Ken Brodlie (University of Leeds), and
the principal speakers are Prof Robert Spence (Imperial College London),
Prof Daniel Keim (University of Konstanz, Germany), Prof Michael Batty
(University College London), Prof Dan Shapiro (University of Lancaster) and
Dr Chaomei Chen (Brunel University). There will also be a speaker on genome
data, and presentations from Dr Helen Wright (University of Hull) and Prof
David Duce (University of Bath).
Information visualization aims to provide insight into the wide range of
information structures that need to be studied today. Where scientific
visualization is mainly concerned with numeric data, information
visualization also deals with text and attributes. It also deals with
graphs, trees and databases as well as arrays. In many applications - which
include text, design spaces, surveys, genomes and cartography - the datasets
are huge and the prior knowledge uncertain. This VVECC event offers an
opportunity to learn about the current state-of-the-art in information
visualization, its opportunities and applications.
Full details of the meeting (speakers' abstracts, timed programme for the
day, electronic registration form and directions) can be found by following
the links on the VVECC Events page at:

The closing date for receipt of registrations is 9th May. Any queries
should be e-mailed to the VVECC Secretary (details below).
