The Concise Scots Dictionary (Ed. Mairi Robinson, Aberdeen University 1985)
has the following definition of 'sib': adj. 'sib', comparative 'sibber'.
superlative 'sibbest':
1. related by blood to, of the same kindred or lineage as
2. closely akin to, allied with, of the same sort as
3. likely to inherit or acquire, having a claim to
4 bound by ties of affection, familiarity
As a noun, 'sib' means ' a relative'
I have paraphrased the entry very slightly.
I would suggest that in 'Tomlinson', the meaning is either 1. or 2. above -
i.e., the Devil is One of Us.
Yours,
Alastair Wilson

IN Tomlinson, the Devil was 'o'er-sib to Adam's breed'. What does this
mean?
