In answer to Robbie White's query, I suspect 'the gay thirteen-two' is a
pony. In the poem 'The Mare's Nest' the pony Lilly measures thirteen-two,
while in the short story 'The Maltese Cat' (The Day's Work) thirteen-three
is the maximum height for polo-ponies in the Upper India Free for All Cup:
'"They're chargers - cavalry chargers!" said Kittwynk indignantly.
