Jeffery Lewins and I are collecting translations of 'If - ' for the Kipling
conference at Cambridge next September. Can anyone help with the
following?
1. Reference (author, title, date) for an account of women in Ravensbruck
concentration camp under the Nazis, in which an old Polish lady keeps up
the spirits of her fellow-prisoners by teaching them 'If - '. In what
language?
2. Translation into Italian by the Communist writer and activist Gramsci.
Reference and text wanted.
3. Translation into Burmese, not by Aung San Suu Kyi but quoted by her in
the introduction to a book published in India: also issued as a pamphlet
with her comments. Text and reference wanted.
Any clues gratefully received. Lisa Lewis
