Dear All!,
This is just a very quick message to let you know that the PILAS training
session that has been announced for Friday 6th April (tomorrow) as part of
this year's SLAS Conference is going ahead as planned. Dr. Paul Cammack,
from the University of Manchester has agreed to have an interactive session
with all of us where he will be discussing the following topics:
Venue: University House, University of Birmingham
Timetable:
14:15-15:15
1) The Transition from phD to the Employment Market
This is destined to those of you who are at the moment trying to figure out
how to explain to your potential future employers the relevance of many
years studying some highly esoteric subject to the type of jobs you are
seeking. It will involve techniques in job hunting, self-presentation, CV
writing etc.
15:15-15:30 (Break)
15:30-16:30
2) How to produce an effective conference presentation
Some of you suggested that you would welcome some tips and advice on how to
do presentations. This is your chance to learn from somebody with ample
experience in academia.
I hope the workshop offers something of interest to everyone and that
it will be beneficial to you all.
I hope to see many of you there,
