Following is taken from the Nordregio website
http://www.nordregio.se/index.htm They were
appointed by the EC to act as co-ordinator
for the Study Programme on European Spatial Planning
(SPESP).
"In 1999, the ESDP document was published as result of a
more than 10 years long process, the so-called “ESDP
process”. During this process it became obvious that more
knowledge about spatial development and planning in Europe
is needed: The idea of a European Spatial Planning
Observatory Network (ESPON) was born. As a first step
towards the establishment of ESPON the Study Programme
on European Spatial Planning (SPESP) was carried,
1999-2000. This was the test-phase of the idea of a
European Network on Spatial Planning. The next step in this
process is the establishment of ESPON under Interreg
IIIC. Under guidance of Luxemburg, a number of SPESP
follow-up projects will be launched within the framework of
Interreg, during the years 2001-2006"
Nordregio has observed the ESDP process and carried
out research on European Spatial Planning and co-ordinated
a European research-network with participation by reps.
from all 15 EU Member States. Their website carries all
their publications and reports. Regards Liz Mackie
