Dear Yeung Wai Chung,
Thank you for your e-mail and the attached letter. It was nice hearing from
another geographer from far away.
With regards to your enquiry about studying here at CURS, I would like to
point out that we are not a traditional Geography department. There is such
a department at this university should you wish to apply there. We are a
department of Urban and Regional Studies within the School of Public Policy.
This means that we are working in an interdisciplinary way, and most of our
work has a policy element to it.
I am not entirely clear from your letter whether you wish to study for a
Masters degree here or for a PhD. As I understand it, you are just finishing
your undergraduate degree in Beijing and you may be going for a Masters
degree in Singapore. You could apply for a MSc here at CURS directly from
your undergraduate degree. There are five different MSc programmes that you
can choose between. It is not too late to apply for a place from 1 October
2001, should you wish. If you are interested in one of these degrees -
please contact the postgraduate admissions tutor, Mr Brian Wheeller
([log in to unmask]). I have passed your letter on to him.
However, if you are interested in applying for a PhD here at CURS, then you
will need to take a Masters degree first. We do not admit students to the
PhD programme directly from their undergraduate degrees. You could apply
next year (for starting in October 2002). You would be eligible to apply to
our PhD programme with a Masters degree from Singapore, if that is where you
intend to study this autumn.
I hope that his information has proved useful and I wish you the best of
luck in your future studies.
Yours truly,
Margareta Dahlström

at your department
Dear Mr. Yeung Wai Chung,Henry,
I am going to graduate as a B.A from the Department Geography at Beijing
University, the most distinguished university in China. Now I have a plan to
further my graduate study of geography in Singapore and I just got to know
that your department offers some research-based graduate programs leading to
M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. I have browsed the website of your department and
found out that it fits my academic interests very well. Now I am wondering
if it's too late for me to submit my application (my desir
Attached is Personal Statement. In addition, my GPA during undergraduate

Thanks a lot.
Sincerely,
