A MAJOR ONE DAY CONFERENCE
ORGANISED BY NIESR
Disadvantage in the labour market:
diversity and commonality in causes,
consequences and redress
Disadvantage in the labour market takes various forms: unemployment,
lower pay, low job achievement, insecure employment. Its causes are
diverse, including changes in labour market demand, discrimination,
organisational structures and role differences. Policies to counter
disadvantage vary in their nature and effectiveness. This conference
presents leading research on a range of aspects of disadvantage in order
to explore the degree of commonality in causes and consequences and
to explore policies to tackle disadvantage.
